DPF / FAP removal via software

When the particulate filter clogs or fails, the ECU goes into limp mode, multiplies regenerations, dilutes the engine oil and turns on the warning light. Powerise’s software solution removes filter management from the original ECU, consistently with the stock maps and with a correct checksum.

What the DPF is and why it clogs

The particulate filter (DPF, or FAP on PSA/Fiat engines with additive) is a ceramic filter in the exhaust that traps the soot produced by diesel combustion. The ECU estimates the soot load with a calculation model and with the differential pressure sensor; when the load exceeds a threshold it starts a regeneration: post-injections that raise the gas temperature to 550-650 °C to burn off the particulate.

The problem arises with urban driving and short trips: the regeneration does not complete, the filter loads up, the ECU starts another one, and the diesel from the post-injections ends up in the engine oil. Over time non-combustible ash builds up and the filter must be replaced (€800 to €3,000 depending on the vehicle) or oven-cleaned. The software removal removes filter management from the ECU, so the car no longer depends on its condition.

This is not simply clearing fault codes. Switching off a DTC without disabling the strategy brings the light back within a few cycles. A correct job touches every table governing the filter, consistently.

Typical symptoms and fault codes

SymptomCommon DTCsWhat it means
DPF light on, continuous or failed regenerationsP2002, P2463, P242FFilter efficiency below threshold or soot/ash accumulation above the limit
Vehicle in limp mode, reduced powerP2458, P2459, P246CRegeneration too frequent or interrupted; the ECU protects the engine
Engine oil level rising, smell of diesel in the oil—Dilution from repeated post-injections: risk of seizure
Differential pressure or temperature sensor in errorP2452, P2453, P2454, P244A, P244B, P0470Faulty sensor or hoses: the ECU can no longer estimate the load
Black smoke and rising consumptionP1471, P2463Saturated filter, high exhaust back-pressure

What we do on the ECU

  1. Reading the original file with a master tool (OBD, bench or boot) and backup delivered to the customer.
  2. Analysis of fault codes and real parameters of the vehicle: back-pressure, temperatures, regeneration status.
  3. DPF strategy deactivation: active and passive regenerations, soot/ash load model, post-injections, exhaust temperature management.
  4. DTC masks for the sensors involved (differential pressure, pre/post filter temperatures) set so they trigger neither warning lights nor limp mode.
  5. Checksum recalculated and writing; diagnostic check that no pending faults remain.

Performance maps are not touched: delivery stays stock. On request the job can be combined with EGR removal or with a Stage 1 remap. The physical filter can stay in place (monolith removed) or be replaced by a pipe: the workshop decides.

Supported platforms

Bosch EDC15, EDC16, EDC17, MD1 and MG1; Marelli MJD; Siemens/Continental SID and PCR; Denso; Delphi DCM; Cummins and ECUs for industrial and agricultural vehicles. Cars, vans, trucks, buses, tractors and earthmoving machinery. Feasibility depends on the software version: we confirm it on the read file.

Technical and legal note

DPF removal on vehicles driven on public roads is subject to the type-approval regulations in force in your country. Powerise provides software solutions for professional, motorsport, off-road and export use; responsibility for their use remains with the operator.

Frequently asked questions

After the software removal, do I have to remove the filter?

If the filter is clogged, yes: back-pressure remains even if the ECU no longer manages it. The monolith is removed leaving the outer shell, or it is replaced by a pipe.

Can the warning light come back?

No, if the strategy and DTC masks are disabled consistently and the checksum is correct. It can come back if only the fault codes are cleared without touching the strategy.

Does performance change?

Delivery stays stock. With the clogged filter gone you recover the original response and consumption; power only increases if combined with a remap.

How much does it cost and how long does it take?

Online on TuningBot the DPF off service starts from €19.99 and the file arrives within minutes; on site the cost depends on the vehicle and the reading method (OBD or bench). Ask for a quote.

Does it work on trucks and agricultural machinery too?

Yes: on the Bosch, Cummins, Delphi and Continental ECUs of industrial vehicles, often together with AdBlue off.

Already have the file read from the ECU?

Upload it to TuningBot and get the DPF off (checksum correction selectable as a service) within minutes, or send us make, model and ECU version to check feasibility.
